Historic Sites & Gardens

Conwy is home to a wide range of historic sites, from prehistoric landscapes to medieval castles and Victorian parks. Across the county, you can discover evidence of human activity spanning thousands of years.

On Mynydd Hiraethog, near Llyn Brenig, prehistoric camps, burial chambers and standing stones are scattered across the moorland, with walking trails linking many of these sites. The Great Orme Mines offer a rare chance to explore one of the world’s largest prehistoric copper mines, while Llandudno reflects later history through its well‑preserved Victorian architecture.

The area is known for its castles and fortifications, including Conwy Castle and its complete town walls, Dolwyddelan Castle in the mountains, and Iron Age hillforts found throughout the landscape. Historic buildings such as Plas Mawr and Gwydir Castle give insight into life in Elizabethan and Tudor Wales.

For gardens and green spaces, visitors can explore Bodnant Garden, Happy Valley in Llandudno, and the formal and coastal gardens of Colwyn Bay, each offering a quieter way to experience Conwy’s heritage.
