Fishing opportunities are found almost everywhere in Conwy County - rivers, lakes, streams, moorland waters and small fisheries. Our mountain lakes are especially popular with game anglers, offering quiet, scenic spots and excellent catches throughout the season.

Hidden in the Gwydir Forest above Llanrwst, Llyn Crafnant is known for rainbow and wild brown trout. This beautiful 25‑hectare (63‑acre) lake offers well‑sheltered banks and a peaceful setting, making it a favourite for anglers looking for a relaxing day in stunning surroundings.

The Mynydd Hiraethog uplands offer three superb fishing venues:
• Llyn Brenig - At 372 hectares (920 acres), this is one of the region’s premier fly‑fishing lakes. Rainbow trout are the main catch, supported by brown trout (stocked and wild) and tiger trout.
• Alwen Reservoir - A 150‑hectare (368‑acre) lake well‑stocked with rainbow trout and home to plenty of perch, ideal for a varied day’s fishing from wooded, sheltered banks.
• Llyn Aled - A remote 45‑acre (110‑acre) moorland lake offering perch, roach and notably large pike. One pike famously weighed in at 22lb, making it a favourite for anglers seeking quiet waters and big fish. -
Conwy County has several well‑stocked small fisheries perfect for both experienced anglers and beginners.

• Tan‑y‑Mynydd Trout Fishery, Moelfre near AbergeleBoth offer rainbow, brown, blue and tiger trout with a good mix of challenges for seasoned anglers and enjoyable sessions for newcomers.

If you prefer saltwater fishing, Conwy County has excellent options. Join a trip on the ‘Incentive’ from Rhos‑on‑Sea or the ‘Gwen‑Paul‑M’ catamaran based in Deganwy. These trips take you out to productive fishing grounds with expert local skippers who know the best spots.
