Dolwyddelan
Dolwyddelan is a peaceful mountain village set between Betws‑y‑Coed and Blaenau Ffestiniog, surrounded by some of the most dramatic scenery in Eryri (Snowdonia). With towering peaks like Moel Siabod close by, it’s an ideal base for walkers, photographers and anyone looking to explore quieter, wilder landscapes.
A Village with Royal Roots
Above the village stands Dolwyddelan Castle, a 13th‑century stronghold built by Llywelyn the Great, one of Wales’s most significant medieval princes and believed to be his birthplace. Its position on a high ridge gave strategic control of the Lledr Valley, and the views from the battlements are still impressive today.
Later captured by Edward I and restored in the Victorian era, the castle remains one of the few surviving native Welsh fortresses.
