Accommodation Grading Information
When you’re browsing places to stay on this website, you may notice that some accommodation providers have a star rating. These star grades are awarded by national assessing bodies such as Visit Wales and the AA, and they help give you an idea of the quality and facilities you can expect during your stay.
Star ratings range from one to five stars, and all UK assessing bodies use the same criteria - meaning you can compare accommodation with confidence no matter where you go. It’s also worth noting that taking part in the grading schemes is voluntary, so not every business will have a rating.
-
Star ratings reflect the overall quality of the accommodation and the range of facilities provided.
A higher star rating usually means more services or amenities, but a lower star rating does not always mean lower quality - some smaller places may simply choose not to offer the full range of facilities required for higher grades. You’ll also find that different types of accommodation have different expectations. For example, the criteria for a hotel are not the same as those for a B&B or guest house, so a 4‑star B&B isn’t directly comparable to a 4‑star hotel.
-
If you have particular needs or expectations, it’s always a good idea to check directly with the accommodation provider to make sure they offer the facilities you’re looking for.
