Penmaenmawr
Penmaenmawr is a relaxed, traditional seaside village with a long promenade, wide sandy beach and beautiful sunsets across Conwy Bay. With views stretching to Anglesey and Puffin Island, it’s a peaceful coastal base with easy access to walking routes, history and outdoor adventures.
-
The promenade offers a classic seaside experience, complete with a paddling pool, playground, traditional beach huts and a modern skate park. The broad beach is ideal for family days out, sandcastle‑making and watersports, and there’s a thriving local sailing club for those keen to get out on the water.
-
Penmaenmawr is also a great starting point for walking. Trails lead into the surrounding hills, following old Roman roads and passing historic sites including an Iron Age fort, Meini Hirion stone circle (dating to around 1500 BC), and the remains of a Neolithic axe quarry, whose tools have been found across Britain.
For a memorable scenic drive, head up the winding Sychnant Pass, the traditional route linking Penmaenmawr with Conwy through rugged moorland and dramatic views.
-
In the village, Penmaenmawr Museum brings the area’s story to life with prehistoric finds, Bronze Age artefacts and exhibits charting the town’s growth during the 19th‑century quarrying boom.
Nearby Parc Plas Mawr offers peaceful gardens, woodland and a lakeside spot perfect for reading or relaxing. The foundations within the park mark the former home of the Darbishire family, once owners of the Penmaenmawr Quarry.
Golfers can enjoy a local course with spectacular sea views providing both inspiration and distraction in equal measure.
