1. The Great Orme Mines – beat the heat and explore underground
For a memorable heritage experience, Great Orme Mines offers the chance to step inside an ancient landscape and explore underground tunnels linked to Bronze Age copper mining. It is a unique way to understand the depth of history beneath Llandudno’s famous headland, with a setting that combines archaeology, geology and views across the coast.
Step underground and escape the heat – in the June 2026 heatwave it was 30 degrees Celsius above ground but a comfortable 8-10 below. And with a covered visitor centre and subterranean mine complex, it’s a great option for a rainy-day activity too. Contrary to the recent weather, it does rain in Wales occasionally!

2. Conwy Guided Tours – discover local stories and hidden gems
Join James on a Conwy Guided Tour and experience this majestic medieval town like never before! A guided tour is a great idea for visitors who want more than a quick look around; they are a great way to explore Conwy’s history and culture from the people who know it best. It is a particularly useful option for first-time visitors, groups or anyone who enjoys a more personal approach to sightseeing.
With a choice of tours to suit even the most sceptical visitor – choose from the Conwy Castle tour, Conwy town tour, Plas Mawr tour or the ever-popular Conwy ghost tour! With an option for private or group tours, you’ll explore hidden corners off the tourist trail and hear stories known only to the ‘Jackdaws’, the people lucky enough to be born within the town walls.
3. Manorafon Farm Park – a fun day out for the whole family
For families with kids, Manorafon Farm Park in Abergele offers a fun, hands-on day out with plenty for visitors of all ages to enjoy. There’s lots of cute (and some not so cute) animals to meet at Cwtch Corner and in the Reptile House and more play zones than you can shake a stick at! We know kids can be fussy and some prefer animals of the extinct variety. No problem. Explore Manorafon’s interactive Dinosaur Trail and have a go at uncovering the next big find at the Dino Dig!
How many farms have you been to with a daily foam party? All summer, included with your entry ticket, visitors can join in with Farm Fiesta – think foam, inflatables and lots of fun.
It’s exhausting watching the kids have all the fun but have no fear, grown-ups, you’ll be well catered for here too with a choice of places to eat or just chill out with a picnic.
4. Penderyn Distillery – sample real Welsh whisky
Penderyn Distillery adds a different flavour to a Conwy County itinerary. Known as the home of Welsh whisky, Penderyn’s Llandudno distillery connects local legend, craft and modern Welsh distilling. The first whisky distillery to be opened in Wales in over 100 years, Penderyn has become a global player in the whisky world and is well-regarded for its array of award-winning single malts. Originating in the Brecon Beacons in Mid Wales, Penderyn opened a second distillery in Llandudno in 2021. In that time, it has become one of Llandudno’s most popular and unique visitor attractions, with the distillery housed in a sympathetically converted Victorian school house close to the town centre.
There is a choice of tours, ranging from an hour-long distillery tour to tasting masterclasses. You don’t need to be a whisky afficionado either, this is a great way to experience our Welsh culinary heritage first hand too. This one’s best-suited to adult visitors, couples or groups looking for a unique indoor experience.
5. Llandudno Land Train – see the Great Orme from a different perspective
Lots of people assume the best way to experience the Great Orme is from the summit but did you know you can also enjoy ‘Llandudno’s mountain’ from a different perspective? The tramway and the cable car are the most popular ways of seeing the sights, but the Llandudno Land Train offers a scenic and accessible alternative. Departing from Llandudno Pier, the guided journey follows Marine Drive, taking in sea views, cliffs, wildlife and breathtaking vistas across Llandudno Bay, Anglesey, Eryri and towards Conwy Castle. It is family- and dog-friendly, with live commentary and plenty of photo opportunities along the route.
New for Summer 2026 – Llandudno Town Tour - a new route around Llandudno allowing you to explore the town at your own pace. Simply buy your ticket then hop-on-hop-off the land train!
