Morning: History and views
Whether you have parked your car or stepped off the train…you can start your day in Conwy with a visit to Conwy Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built by Edward I in the 13th century, it offers stunning views from its towers and a deep dive into medieval history. Allow at least an hour to explore the castle’s walls, towers, and inner chambers.
Next, take a stroll along the town walls, among the best preserved in Europe — great for panoramic views of the town and surrounding hills. The full circuit takes about 45 minutes and provides stunning viewpoints over the rooftops, castle, and harbour. The walls lead you back toward the heart of the town, where you can explore the exquisitely restored Elizabethan townhouse showcasing 16th-century life Plas Mawr, one of the best-preserved Elizabethan townhouses in Britain.
Ready for a coffee break:
After your morning sightseeing, refuel with a late breakfast or brunch at L’s Coffee Shop or Cantin Café at Conwy Culture Centre, before wandering down the High Street, where you’ll find charming boutiques and craft shops. You have to try the first bean to bar chocolate at Barvelli’s, a local chocolatier or other locally sourced produce from Edwards of Conwy Butchers. Don’t forget to also stop at Conwy Tourist Information Centre to find your perfect souvenir or gift to take home
Midday: Lunch and quayside charm
Enjoy an afternoon drink at the hidden garden at Vinomondo which provides a stunning view of St Mary’s Church. Once refreshed, walk down to the Conwy Quay and visit the Smallest House in Great Britain for a quirky photo opportunity, then enjoy a peaceful stroll along the quay and estuary. It only takes a few minutes to see inside, but it’s a quirky, memorable experience.
Afternoon: Boat trip and nature
After lunch, take a boat trip with one of the quayside boat tour operators such as AquaTour. They run regular boat trips from the quay during peak season which give you scenic views of the castle, estuary, and surrounding seascape.
In the afternoon, , take a walk up to Conwy Mountain for a bit of light hiking and rewarding views over the coast and Eryri (Snowdonia) or stay closer to town and explore Bodlondeb Woods and the Wales Coast path along the estuary.
Evening: Relax and dine
Wrap up your day with dinner at the Jackdaw — serving a specially selected Welsh tasting menu experience. Conwy’s compact layout makes it ideal for a day trip, blending history, nature, and local culture in one scenic spot.
As the day ends, walk back toward the quay or the castle walls for a final view of the sunset over the Conwy estuary.
