Cycling has taken Britain by storm!

Thanks to the Olympics, Sir Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish (not forgetting Wales’s own Geraint Thomas), we’re all at it.

Bike sales are booming as we take to two wheels in a big way.

We’ve noticed more and more visitors arriving with bikes strapped to the backs of their cars (if you don’t have one there’s plenty of local bike hire in places like Betws-y-Coed, Colwyn Bay, Conwy and Llandudno).

They’re soon off, exploring our scenic, specially designated cycle trails – routes like the National Cycle Network’s link along the coast from Kinmel Bay to Llanfairfechan, the routes in the Conwy Valley and around Llandudno and Betws-y-Coed.

Some of these routes – flat and largely traffic-free on dedicated cyclepaths – are particularly good for families.

Offroad enthusiasts can head into the hills for the adrenaline rush of mountain biking.

There are trails for all-comers, from macho downhill heroes to MTB novices.

The Gwydir Forest Park’s 16-mile Marin Trail throws up the kind of challenges that singletrack fans love, while the gentler Llyn Elsi Biking Trail offers stunning scenery from wide, undulating and well-surfaced forest tracks.

There’s a similar mix of MTB trails in the Penmachno Forest, too. And the Cycle Centre at Llyn Brenig on Mynydd Hiraethog offers bike hire and routes for all ages and abilities.
